Customer background

Morningstar Information (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. is a Hong Kong-owned enterprise established in Shenzhen in February 2003 by Morningstar, Inc. (a NASDAQ-listed company, ticker MORN) in Shenzhen. As a company providing professional securities consulting, Morningstar places great emphasis on security and user experience.

Morningstar's U.S. headquarters uses Splunk as an observability tool, but due to network, permission, and usage habits, the domestic team has never been able to use Splunk, instead seeking a secure, high-performance, and user-friendly observability platform.

Additionally, to provide a high-quality user experience to global users, Morningstar has invested heavily in CDNs, but the quality of CDN services is very unstable, and users still occasionally complain about poor access experiences with Morningstar.

Solutions

An end-to-end full-link observable platform

Morningstar has built an end-to-end full-link observable platform through Guance RUM (Real User Monitoring) and APM (Application Performance Monitoring) features. The platform starts from user IDs and can fully trace users' interaction journeys, from clicks and browsing on front-end pages to response processing by back-end application services, achieving full-chain data tracking. Through this deep association, Morningstar can quickly pinpoint the root causes of poor user experience. Whether it's slow frontend page loading, API call failures, or backend service processing timeouts, it can promptly troubleshoot and resolve issues, significantly improving user experience and system stability.

Monitor CDN performance in real time

To ensure efficient CDN service operation, Morningstar uses Guance's dial-up feature to monitor CDN service availability in real time. By deploying dial-up nodes in different geographic locations, it simulates access to CDN resources and obtains key metrics such as response time and success rate in real time, ensuring the stability and reliability of CDN services. At the same time, Guance collect CDN service log data in real time, including detailed information such as request logs and error logs. With Guance's visual dashboard, Morningstar can intuitively observe trends in key metrics such as CDN cache hit rate and bandwidth usage, promptly identifying potential issues and optimizing configurations, thereby gaining deeper insights into the true acceleration effect of the CDN and providing users with a smoother access experience.

Efficiently manage physical equipment

In terms of physical device management, Morningstar has achieved centralized collection, unified analysis, and unified alerting for network and security device syslogs through Guance. Guance powerful log management features that can automatically parse and process log data from various devices. Whether it's network logs from routers and switches, or security logs from firewalls and intrusion detection systems, all can be centrally managed on a single platform. With preset alarm rules, Guance can monitor abnormal information in logs in real time, such as equipment failures and security threats, and promptly issue alert notifications to help operations and maintenance personnel respond and handle issues quickly. This centralized management approach greatly reduces the time required for operations staff to switch between different devices and troubleshoot issues, significantly improving the efficiency of managing physical devices and ensuring stable operation of network and security devices.
